Jamie Foxx & Martin Scorsese's Mike Tyson Biopic Is Still A Go

A Mike Tyson biopic has been discussed for years now, but at least we can now find some comfort in knowing that some big names are attached to the project.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Jamie Foxx offered an update on the biopic while promoting his forthcoming crime thriller film Sleepless.

Here is how the exchange went:

Screen Rant: Speaking of getting punched, one of the most polarizing lives of the past thirty years has been Mike Tyson. I know you were attached [to a biopic of Tyson], what's the update on that?

Jamie Foxx: That is a go.

Screen Rant: It's a go? Martin Scorsese's still attached?

Jamie Foxx: Yeah, he's attached, and it's — Mike Tyson's life is one of the most amazing American stories.

Foxx and Scorsese is already a force to be reckoned with. The former has shown his chops as an actor time and time again, and in regards to biopics let us not forget his memorable portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray. As for the latter he has directed a number of incredible films, one of them being the black and white boxing drama Raging Bull.

The last time we were given any real news about the Tyson biopic was well over two years ago, when Foxx stopped by Ebro In The Morning and ended up talking about the film (as well as the first time he met the boxing legend).

"I'm 21 years old, I'm in the club, I'm burning down Los Angeles right now...so I would get up and go to my Mike Tyson joke, which I get the standing ovation on, and it's complete silence," Foxx recounted. "I was like 'What's up?' Mike Tyson is in the building."

Ultimately, Tyson still had Foxx tell the joke (which the athlete ended up enjoying) and the two became friends, giving Foxx a more intimate glimpse into Tyson's life.

Although there is still no date on the biopic in regards to when shooting will begin (as well as other people involved with the movie), it is nice to know the film is still a go.
