The shooting took place Sunday afternoon.

Jacob Blake, a Black man in Kenosha, WI, was shot multiple times as he tried to enter his vehicle Sunday afternoon. On Thursday, his father, also named Jacob Blake, told the Chicago Sun-Timesthat his son is currently handcuffed to his hospital bed.

"I hate it that he was laying in that bed with the handcuff onto the bed," the elder Blake said. "He can't go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed to the bed?"

In a report from ABC 7 Chicago, the shooting occurred after 5 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to a domestic incident. A video of the shooting, which has since spread across social media, shows three officers shouting and pointing their guns at Blake as he walks to the front of an SUV. As he opens the driver's side door, one of the officers grabs his shirt and proceeds to fire into the car.

Seven shots can be heard in the video; it's unknown if more than one officer fired.

Ben Crump, the attorney representing Blake's family, addressed the shooting in a statement, saying that the police's "irresponsible, reckless, and inhumane actions nearly cost the life of a man who was simply trying to do the right thing by intervening in a domestic incident."

"We will seek justice for Jacob Blake and for his family as we demand answers from the Kenosha Police Department. How many more of these tragic 'while Black' tragedies will it take until the racial profiling and undervaluing of Black lives by the police finally stops?" he added.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers also condemned the shooting on Twitter.

'While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country," Evers said. "...I have said all along that although we must offer our empathy, equally important is our action. In the coming days, we will demand just that of elected officials in our state who have failed to recognize the racism in our state and our country for far too long."

Joe Biden also issued a statement on the shooting and said the incident "calls for an immediate, full and transparent investigation and the officers must be held accountable."

According to a separate report from CBS News, Blake was transported to the hospital in serious condition. His father said on Facebook that his son is alive and in stable condition. Daniel Poneman, a family friend, also tweeted that Blake is out of surgery and in the ICU where he is "expected to make it." On Tuesday morning, the Chicago Sun Times spoke with Blake's father, where he shared that his son was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the shooting. However, doctors don't know if the injury is permanent.

Since the shooting, protests have taken place in the city.
