Issa Rae Lands First Post-'Insecure' Role In Edgy Comedy, "Empress of Serenity"
Issa Rae is on a tear all throughout Hollywood, as the successful actress and screenwriter continues to place gigs based on her skills as a very funny lady.
In what is being deemed as her first post-Insecure role, Issa Rae will star opposite former Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader (Trainwreck) in the feature comedy, Empress of Serenity.
Now, this is Issa Rae’s first full-length feature, and won’t probably be the last time we see the awkward one the big screen. Empress of Serenity is set up at independent film production company, Good Universe, and has already confirmed author Jesse Andrews (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as the project’s director + screenwriter.
Loosely based on a David Foster Wallace novel, Empress of Serenity finds Bill Hader as an animal rights lawyer who is shocked by the news of his mother’s passing. Coerced to go on a 45-day cruise to heal by his estranged father, Hader’s character finds an unexpected friend in Issa Rae’s Michelle, who is described as a reclusive kindred spirit.
With production slated to begin in August, Empress of Serenity sounds like a film worth keeping tabs on, which is what we will do for you as more develops.
Until then, you all can see Issa Rae bring the funny on a weekly basis when Insecure returns July 23 for its second season.
