Oscar-winning Moonlight director Barry Jenkins is coming back to the big screen with a new film centered on the late luminary James Baldwin.

Last year, Moonlight won Oscars for best picture and best adapted screenplay, and now Jenkins has returned with his latest project If Beale Street Could Talk, a drama adapted from James Baldwin’s 1974 novel of the same name.

The writer-director posted the trailer to Twitter on Thursday, Baldwin's birthday, with the caption, "For me, August 2nd has always been a day to pay tribute, so... a teaser of what's to come. Happy Birthday, Jimmy."

The film is being distributed by Annapurna Pictures and stars Kiki Layne and Stephan James as Clementine “Tish” Rivers and Alonzo “Fonny” Hunt, two lovers forced apart when Fonny is falsely accused of rape. When Tish finds out she is pregnant while Fonny is in prison, she and her family and her lawyer rush to find evidence to exonerate him.

Some of the supporting cast includes Viola Davis, Teyonah Parris, Regina King, and Brian Tyree Henry.

The film is slated to hit select theaters this fall.
