Hollywood's Amoeba Music Isn't Going Anywhere...For Now

Yesterday the world rightfully gawked at the prospect of a Amoeba Music's iconic Hollywood location closing its doors. According to a report from LAist, the building located at 6400 Sunset Blvd. had been bought back in 2015 by a real estate group, pointing towards plans to redevelop the entire block based on a rendering done by an architectural firm, sending chills down the collective spine of local crate diggers.

The shop responded with a note to insure its loyal customer base that they would be sticking around throughout the duration of their current lease, which they claim buys them at least another few years. Now Cliff Goldstein, a partner at the real estate group has clarified their purchase and plans with The Los Angeles Times, stating:

"We intend to make an application to redevelop the property. At the same time, we're talking to Amoeba and have a great relationship with them. We're talking to them about a longer-term commitment to remain. We're open to those discussions, and we're having those preliminary discussions with them.”

And so it seems that Amoeba Music is safe...for now, and depsite our deepest fears, we could potentially be looking at a facelift for the storied independent retailer. Suppose only time will tell. Still, you should make your way over there before any more surprises make way down the grapevine.
