Hiero Day In The Bay [Photos + Recap]
While we here on the East were splashing out to Brooklyn Carnival and Afropunk Festival, it was Hiero Day in the Bay (Okay, here's my doctor's note and my late pass--we got lost in the time zones!) In fact Oakland Mayor Jean Quan has officially declared September 3rd Hiero Day (recognized by the city and everything) but that didn't stop the Bay Area massive from taking advantage of the no-school-zone on September 2nd (Labor Day) for a massive concert at Oakland's Linden Brewery featuring the likes of Adrian Younge, Murs, Dan The Automator host Sway and of course guests of honor the Hieroglyphics crew in full effect. This year's Hiero Day was perhaps the most significant of all what with 2013 marking the 20th Anniversary of Souls Of Mischief's seminal album 93 'til Infinity--the musical movement that introduced the three-eyed Hiero logo to the world. Okayplayer photog Ashleigh Reddy was on hand to document what was obviously a memorable day of music, vibes and community.
