Watch Guru In A Never Before Seen Music Video For "Propaganda" ft. Big Shug + Avrex

It still hurts to think about it: this weekend will mark the 5 year anniversary of Guru's tragic death. The MC will without question go down in history as one of the greatest to ever pick up a microphone--Guru's music will live forever, and that's some solace despite his being gone. But now a brand new, never before seen music video featuring, yes, the iconic East Coast rapper. Made with the blessing of Guru's family and loaded with vintage footage of him performing on stages and sidewalks, the clip is for "Propaganda," a DJ Lord Ron-produced track that sounds like something straight of a dusty set of speakers that we bought in 1998. "Propaganda" was reportedly tracked in 2003 when Lord Ron and Guru linked up for a brief spat of sessions, and was re-released in 2013 (along with two other cuts) in a very limited run of cassettes.

Boston MC Avrex was instrumental in the new music video, bringing in not only his own rhyme talents but those of Gang Starr Foundation member Big Shug. With new shots of Shug and Avrex throwing down deft rhymes alongside our fallen hero Guru, who deftly controls each hook, "Propaganda" is in every way a fitting tribute. That it still sounds vital today, 12 years after its creation, is a testament to Guru's timeless talent. Along with the video's release, Avrex is selling special "Propaganda" t-shirts and has made the single available for a $2 download--the proceeds of both will go toward supporting Guru's son K.C. Elam.

“I'm so happy that someone is trying to keep his legacy alive, and also knowing that out of the generosity of their heart, the proceeds are going to benefit my newphew K.C., who was the light of my brother's eye," says Guru's sister Patricia Elam at the clip's beginning. This one was made for all the right reasons. Watch the brand new "Propaganda" video below.
