Funk legend George Clinton recently served as a guest on The Talkhouse, where he discussed the aesthetics of Parliament–Funkadelic, as well as discussed his future projects, one of which will be a solo endeavor produced by Flying Lotus.
“When the mothership landed we had to have costumes that matched the spaceship,” Clinton said. “So we had leather suits, $10,000 coats — we had to look like we were pimps from outer space.”
The interview then transitions into Clinton’s forthcoming works, where he clarifies that along with his solo album there will be a Parliament album too.
“One Parliament album and one George Clinton album,” Clinton said. “George Clinton is the one with Flying Lotus.” When Flying Lotus is mentioned, the conversation goes to the producer’s Brainfeeder showcase that he had in Los Angeles back in September (which Clinton was a part of).
“There were so many people and it was a brand new audience for us,” the P-Funk mastermind recounted. He also name drops Herbie Hancock and vaguely mentions that Brainfeeder is producing something for him too (hopefully we will hear more about that in the foreseeable future).
It will be interesting to see what Clinton and FlyLo cook up together. The former’s untitled solo album is expected to drop some time in 2017.
Hopefully the album will drop before or during Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic’s string of tour dates that they have planned for early next year. Titled the Mardi Gras Madness tour, the 10 day tour begins in the middle of February and goes on until early March. You can check out those dates below.
