Watch Freddie Gibbs + Madlib Perform Two Cuts Live At Pitchfork Festival

One of hip-hop’s most talented new(ish) duos, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib took to the stage at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival, and oh what a moment it was. Drawing extensively from their 2014 Pińata LP, MadGibbs treated the crowd to a blistering display that included “Deeper,” “Thuggin’,” “Harold’s” and more.

Also on the setlist that day was “Scarface,” the short but furious rap that serves as Piñata’s first proper track. Now, Pitchfork has very graciously published pro-shot video of Freddie Gibbs and Madlib performing it, as well as footage of “Pronto,” the more-recent solo single from Gibbs, on which Madlib more than proves he can handle other producers’ material just as well as his own. Performing his aggressive brand of bars for a crowd that might not have been ready for all the heat, Gibbs positively smoldered with intensity on stage, just as Madlib kept it cool from behind the decks, overseeing it all. Watch both “Scarface” and “Pronto” below, and check out Okayplayer’s own exclusive photo recap of the entire Pitchfork Festival. Finally, take note: rumors are flying that even as Freddie Gibbs preps his upcoming solo LP Lifestyles of the Insane, a proper collaborative follow-up to Piñata will in fact arrive…someday.
