Frank Nitt Chops It Up Old School In His New "Classic" Video

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

One of Detroit's finest has come back, or, rather, is bringing us back to the grainy golden days. MC Frank Nitt has just dropped the brand new video for "Classic," his decidedly throwback(ish) track that benefits from LA legend DJ Rhettmatic's pitch-perfect production. Shot in back alleys, tagged up stairwells and what appears to be Rhettmatic's personal record den, the video capitalizes on the use of grainy black and white to deliver a vibe that fits track and title perfectly. Something has clearly carried over from Nitt's long history of collaborating with the late, great J Dilla--"Classic" is the kind of joint that rattles just a little off kilter in all the right ways. The track appears on Nitt's latest project Frankie Rothstein, a fantastic LP that has the MC working with J. Rocc, T3, Illa J and at least one vintage J Dilla production.

In a world of breakneck hip-hop release schedules and a producer scene that seems all too eager to forget the past in the name of the next trend, "Classic" is a breath of fresh, familiar air. Order Frankie Rothstein on iTunes if you haven't already done so and watch the new video clip below.
