Fans Are Disappointed Gangsta Boo Was Left Off 2023 Grammys’ ‘In Memoriam’

Gangsta Boo was omitted from the “In Memoriam” segment during the 65th Grammy Awards. Fans took to social media to express their thoughts.

The Grammy Awards are in hot water for leaving out Gangsta Boo, the slick-talking Memphis female rapper who is known by many as a founding member of Three Six Mafia.

Gangsta Boo passed on New Year’s Day at the age of 43.

Her omission in the “In Memoriam” segment of the 65th Grammy Awards feels deeply wrong given the fact that she recently passed. But, it also stings since right now there are quite a few names out of Memphis that are rising up in hip-hop including GloRilla and Gloss Up. Aside from these sentiments, tonight featured a nearly 15-minute segment honoring hip-hop featuring the likes of Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Big Boi, Ice-T, Rakim, Queen Latifah, and many, many more titans.

Also, GloRilla took the stage at tonight’s Grammys during the previously stated tribute. So, we’re unsure why Gangsta Boo was left out – we find it hard to understand why this was overlooked. By omitting her it’s almost as if the Recording Academy isn’t acknowledging her contribution and how she is a titular and iconic figure in female hip-hop. She led a lauded career after leaving Three Six Mafia, and to this day she is someone who is looked up to, especially by women rappers out of the South.

Gangsta Boo leaves behind a distinct legacy that shouldn’t be forgotten nor overlooked, it’s a disappointment that she wasn’t a part of this year’s Grammys.

Below take a look at some fans’ responses.
