Eric Andre is in support of a petition calling for him to replace Ellen DeGeneres on her own show.
The comedian shared the petition, which is titled “Make Eric Andre the host of the Ellen Show,” on his Twitter account.
“With the recent scandals plaguing Ellen Degeneres, we the people of the world hereby nominate and elect Eric Andre to become the new permanent host of The Ellen Show,” the petition reads, ending with its creator, Ranchposting Fan Squad, requesting that people “sign the petition and make Eric Ellen.”
After sharing the petition, Andre also posted a photoshopped image of his face merged with DeGeneres’ face.
DeGeneres has faced backlash after BuzzFeed News published a report on the alleged “toxic work environment” of her show, with current and former employees speaking out about their experiences.
In response to the report, The Ellen DeGeneres Show executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly, and Andy Lassner released a joint statement taking full responsibility for the show’s daily operations.
“Over the course of nearly two decades, 3,000 episodes and employing over 1000 staff members, we have strived to create an open, safe and inclusive work environment,” the statement said. “We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience. It’s not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us. For the record, the day-to-day responsibility of the Ellen show is completely on us. We take all of this very seriously and we realize, as many in the world are learning, that we need to do better, are committed to do better, and we will do better.”
Celebrities have also come out in defense of DeGeneres, including comedian Kevin Hart.
