De La Soul Hit Crowdfunding Goal For New Album In Less Than A Day

For most folks, crowdfunding can be a worrisome and insanely stressful ordeal, lamenting over whether their project will ever see the light of day. But when it comes to the legendary Native Tongues trio that is De La Soul, fan sourcing an album takes only as long as the news can travel. Within 24 hours of announcing their Kickstarter campaign, the Daisy Age heroes have surpassed their $110,000 goal (by roughly 60k and counting) cementing the fact that we'll finally be getting a new album from the crew; their first official, full-length release since 2004's Grind Date.

While their J Dilla-inspired Smell the Da.I.S.Y. mixtape might have provided donut lovers with a perfect concoction of De La's effortless flows and Jay Dee's revered production styles, their forthcoming record marks the dawn of a new approach, recruiting a dynamic set of features, including Little Dragon, David Byrne, 2 Chainz and Damon Albarn for their first self-sampling record. There's no due date on the record just yet, but now that they've accrued the proper funds for the outing, we can expect updates and tid bits on the regular. You can keep up with the progress by hitting the Kickstarter campaign's landing page or just stay tuned, as we continue to keep our eyes and ears on the matter.
