Dave Chappelle Will Donate Buffalo Show Proceeds to Families of Mass Shooting Victims

While performing at Shea's Buffalo Theater, Dave Chappelle said that show proceeds will be given to families of Tops Friendly Market victims.

Dave Chappelle is doing a good deed after a Sunday (June 5) performance at Shea's Buffalo Theater in Buffalo, New York. During the last-minute show, where Chappelle honored the 10 victims of the Tops Friendly Market mass shooting last month, the comedian announced that show proceeds would be given to families of those killed during the racially-motivated attack.

“He said, and I’m paraphrasing, ‘I came here to Buffalo to recognize the victims and for these families,'” said Shea’s director of marketing and communications, Kevin Sweeney, per the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

Before the comedy event ended, Chappelle reportedly shared that he invited family members of the mass shooting victims, and that some were in the audience. Shea's Buffalo Theater was told last Wednesday (June 1) that Chappelle wanted to hold a comedy show there, and on the following day, tickets were sold out within an hour.

Buffalo, New York isn't the only stop on Chappelle's return to live stand-up. Starting this week from Thursday, June 9 to Saturday, June 11, the comedian will host a series of shows at Wirrig Pavilion in Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he also held "Cornfield Summer Camp" socially-distanced shows in summer of 2020. On Sunday, June 12, Chappelle will host a special screening of his documentary Live in Real Life at the The Schuster Performing Arts Center in Dayton, Ohio, asking that guests lock their phones in a Yondr pouch. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
