Dave Chappelle Attacker Says He Was Bothered By LGBT & Pedophilia Jokes

After attacking Dave Chappelle during Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival on May 3rd, Isaiah Lee has opened up about why he tackled the comedian.

Isaiah Lee is still in the hot seat. After tackling Dave Chappelle on-stage at the Hollywood Bowl during Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival on May 3rd, Lee recently spoke to The New York Post about his purpose behind the attack, mentioning his frustration with Chappelle joking about the LGBTQIA+ community and homelessness.

"I identify as bisexual … and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering," Lee said, adding, "I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect."

Lee said that during Chappelle's set, the comedian also joked about pedophilia, which triggered Lee who says he was sexually abused at 17-years-old while he was at the Department of Children and Family Services in Los Angeles. Having enough with Chappelle's jokes, Lee ran on-stage and tackled Chappelle, to which security rushed him.

"They spat on me and twisted me as if on purpose," Lee said about the attack. Lee also spoke about having a replica gun that was actually a knife, adding that Chappelle asked why he tackled him.

"I told him my mother and grandmother, who fought for his civil rights to be able to speak, would be upset at the things he said," Lee explained. He then claims that Chappelle responded, "now your story will die with you, son."

When asked about suffering from mental health issues, Lee denied the accusations, saying they were “wrong” and “inaccurate," while his lawyer says Lee has been receiving mental health services.

Lee, who has a five-year-old son, now faces four misdemeanor counts of assault. On Thursday, Lee was also charged with stabbing his roommate last year.

“It went from me probably only doing six months [in jail] and having to do community service and living in a transitional home … to possibly 15 or more years in jail,” Lee said. “My son will be big by the time I get out.”
