Botham Jean was fatally shot by Amber Guyger three months ago.

A Dallas grand jury is hearing evidence in the case against Amber Guyger, the former police officer who killed Botham Jean in his own apartment after mistaking it for hers.

According to CBS 11, the grand jury began hearing the case on Monday and will decide whether to indict Guyger, as well as decide on a more serious charge for the former Dallas cop.

“I think it’s a mini trial, evidence presented to the jury and hopefully come back with murder indictment,” Daryl Washington, an attorney representing Jean’s family, said to CBS 11.

“We know it’s rare officers are indicted in Dallas, so nothing about this can be run of the mill or ordinary,” Lee Merritt, another attorney representing Jean’s family, added.

A decision is expected by Wednesday.

As NBC 5 noted, “the grand jury could do one of three things. They could either choose to indict Guyger on the manslaughter charge, indict her on a more serious charge or choose to not indict her on any charge (no bill).”

Guyger was arrested on a manslaughter charge three days after killing Jean. She initially told authorities that she mistook his apartment for hers and thought he was a burglar. She also accused Jean of not listening to her “verbal commands” before fatally shooting him.
