NYC: House Shoes, Dabrye & Lamin Fofana at LPR [2/28]

House Shoes debuted an awesome collection of mash out music that shot a heavy dose of Motor City heat back into the heart of hip-hop with 2012's Let It Go. Hitting the scene as DJ House Shoes and making his name for being as ill on the decks as he is outspoken - Shoes has since added 'semi-official gatekeeper of J Dilla's legacy' to his resume following the producer's untimely passing in 2006. Given the hand he's had in pushing his city and it's music it could be argued, however, that he is probably the semi-official keeper of everything to do with Detroit hip-hop. While this release marked his solo debut, it is painfully obvious by the first track that Shoes is no freshman. He packed the record with gorgeous soul samples and the kind of lyrical goonery that embodies the essence of his home city - an interesting phenomenon considering that Shoes piloted this joint from his latest homebase in Los Angeles. The record features Danny Brown, Oh No, The Alchemist, Roc Marciano, Guilty Simpson and others. With Shoes ready to take the show on the road, we're keeping our fingers crossed that a few of these guys will be taking the stage with him. Following two shows in California, he will be heading back east to bring this joint to life onstage at Le Poisson Rouge with fellow Michigan producer Dabrye and DJ Lamin Fofana. The show - presented by Bandshell - is scheduled to rock New York City on February 28th.
