Common, Ne-Yo Join Cast Of NBC's 'The Wiz' Live Reboot

Pass The Popcorn: Common Signs On To Star In DC Comics' 'Suicide Squad'

Both Common and Ne-Yo will be featured in the cast of NBC's upcoming live broadcast of 'The Wiz.' The program will air December 3rd and will be a modern take on the classic musical, whose original cast featured, amongst many talented others, Michael Jackson.

Billboard reports that the 2015 'Wiz' redux will be directed by Kenny Leon, with a screenplay adapted by Harvey Fierstein. Exactly which roles Common and Ne-Yo will play have yet to be revealed, but given their sizable musical talents, one can reasonably expect them to get more than just a brief cameo bit part. They join an already impressive cast that includes Orange Is The New Black's Uzo Aduba playing Glinda, the Good Witch, as well as Glee alumnae Amber Riley taking on the role of Addaperle, the Good Witch.

In the case of Common specifically, the move represents yet another step into the world of acting. With an Oscar already under his belt for his musical contributions to Selma, Common appears to be keen to up his own thespian cred--the rapper has already been added to the film cast of Suicide Squad, and has previously expressed his dream of one day achieving EGOT status.
