Common Talks Maya Angelou, Music Quality And More On ‘Larry King Now’

Common takes to Larry King Now on the latest stop of his promo circuit for the recently released Nobody’s Smiling LP. In a fairly casual little discourse, Com and King tackle some heavy matters, namely Maya Angelou‘s influence on Com personally and hip-hop at-large. Com reveals that his favorite place to write is within the confines of his vehicle, taking in the cityscape as we jots down verbal. They delve into what the Chicago wordsmith deems to be most disappointing about hip-hop these days, citing an imbalance in the ubiquity/commercial viability ratio.

He even gives a few cues for the newly established hip-hop connoisseur, advising them to start at the beginning with legends like Eric B & Rakim or KRS to get a good feel for the traditions roots, sans G-ed out mentality. While the full episode has yet to surface on the web, you can watch Com (and Baron Davis, out of nowhere) discuss all these things and more with the literal King of the interview below. Watch out for the full clip later this week or early next. If you’ve yet to cop Common’s No I.D. produced Nobody’s Smiling LP, do yourself a favor and get your ears on that stat. It is available to purchase via iTunes today.
