Pass The Popcorn: Common Inks New 2 Year TV Production Deal With HBO

Fresh off the announcement that Common will play the lead villain opposite Keanu Reeves in Jon Wick 2, it's now been confirmed that the multi-talented Chicago artist has reached an agreement with HBO to produce original television. According to Deadline, Common will be getting to work on projects for the network via his Freedom Road Productions company, and will be working alongside his manager/partner Derek Dudley and head of development/production Nicole Dow.

At present, additional details regarding the deal are scarce, and it's yet to be determined just what sort of programming Common and/or Freedom Road will be getting behind. Still, the move makes it all but impossible, now, to refer to Common as just a musician. The man is a thespian--an artist deeply embedded in the world of acting on both TV and the silver screen. He previously worked as a producer with Showtime on a Chicago-set drama written by Lena Waithe, and (of course) also took home an Oscar award for the song "Glory" and his connection to Selma. Upcoming on-screen performances will see Common suiting up alongside Jared Leto and Will Smith in Warner Bros.'s Suicide Squad, as well as a part in NBC's November live re-creation of The Wiz!
