Yes, Common just released a big, beautiful new record in Black America Again. But no, that’s not even close to the end of it for the Chicago rapper. According to our recent interview with the album’s sole producer, Karriem Riggins, Rashid’s already working on a follow-up to his eleventh studio album. Riggins confirmed that the process had quickly commenced, and noted that for Black America Again, the project was initially intended to be a five-track EP, but thanks to an undying work ethic and an ability to feed of each other’s output, what was meant to be a short-form release quickly bloomed into the politically-sharp and pointed full-length we hear today.
And so, it’s not hard to imagine that the foundation for another Common/Karriem Riggins collabo piece has already been laid. What shape that might take and how far along they are had yet to be determined, but if you’re itching for more from the duo, you just might fish your wish in the year ahead. For now, you can hear just what they’re capable of on Common’s Black America Again via iTunes. Revisit our feature with Karriem to dig out even more gems.
