Chuck Berry's Final Album 'Chuck' Set For Summer Release
Dualtone Records has announced a release date for the late, great Chuck Berry.
CHUCK, a collection of new recordings by the rock-n-roll legend, will be available for your ear’s consumption on this summer, June 16. Berry, who passed away last week at the age of 90, was working on these new recordings, eight of which he wrote personally.
His first album since 1979’s Rock It, CHUCK was recorded in various studios around St. Louis, features his longtime hometown backing ground, his children (Charles Berry Jr. on guitar, Ingrid Berry on harmonica + vocals) and includes guest appearances from Gary Clark Jr., Tom Morello, and Chuck’s grandson Charles Berry III.
“Working to prepare the release of this record in recent months and in fact over the last several years brought him a great sense of joy and satisfaction,” the Berry family said in a statement posted to Facebook earlier this week. “While our hearts are very heavy at this time, we know that he had no greater wish than to see this album released to the world, and we know of no better way to celebrate and remember his 90 years of life than through his music.”
Songs on CHUCK were originally conceived as far back as the 1980s, as Berry worked on the album all the way through 2014. Health concerns forced the notoriously self-reliant performer to stop touring and recording, the studio became his solace as he continued to oversee production of CHUCK by enlisting his family and close friends to put in the work. “Working on my dad’s record has been one of the best experiences of my life,” Charles Berry Jr. said. “I will forever treasure the musical conversations we had, and the time we spent together completing it.
So, strap on your boots, get ready to go on a ride into recklessness with Chuck Berry when his project, CHUCK is made available worldwide on June 16. Peep the track list below.
