Chimurenga Renaissance - "Girlz With Gunz"
It's been some time since we heard anything in the way of new sounds from Chimurenga Renaissance; a genre-melting duo comprised Tendai Maraire of Shabazz Palaces and guitarist Hussein Kalonji.
First we heard from the duo was back in 2014, when they were prepping their debut album, riZe vadZimu riZe. Now two years removed, they're gearing up for the 11-track follow-up EP, Girlz With Gunz, which should prove to be just as potent with its blend of organic and synthesized notes. Today, they've shared the project's title-track, a searing dark pop spell that tells the tale of Grace; a woman who fought in Zimbabwe during the Second Chimurenga, which ended white rule in the country in the 1970s.
