Childish Gambino Performs Live On Zane Lowe, Talks 'Deep Web' Tour

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Childish Gambino dropped by Zane Lowe's studio for a live romp of cuts from his now acclaimed concept album Because The Internet. The session gets started when during Gambino's introduction of his band, Lowe cuts in and leads them through a short take of The Isley Brothers' "Its Your Thing" with Gambino and Lowe at the helm. Once the introduction round runs its course, Gambino & Co shoot into an effortlessly dope take of the gritty alt-trap of "Crawl", followed by their very Drizzy-esque single "3005" and finally ending the performance with an on-point cover of Soul For Real's "Candy Rain," really strutting that ill falsetto he's been hiding all these years. It should be noted that the band was not there for mere aesthetic appeal, as this legion of musicians is seasoned and conditioned, providing a righteous accompaniment for the man of many mediums.

Whether acting, doing stand-up or providing us with water-cooler fodder, Gambino's compelling critique of the digital age is really just beginning. When Lowe asks Gambino what 2014 has in store for him and the rest of us, he hones in on the live experience he's building and billing as the Deep Web Tour; the continuation of the Because The Internet narrative that incorporates his audience's technological follies into the show in a way that seems bridge his musical aspirations and being and being somewhat of a ludite. Whatever 2014 has in store for Gambino, you can be sure its going to be shiny, awkward and a little weird, but wholly enjoyable. Watch Childish Gambino churn out his hits on Zane Lowe below.
