Pass The Popcorn: Childish Gambino’s ‘Atlanta’ TV Series Picked Up By FX For 10-Episode Season

Well, it appears that Childish Gambino is about to make a massive return to your TV screen. Bino, who sharpened his television chops writing for 30 Rock and starring in Community well before donning his current moniker, has been quietly working on a semi-autobiographical series titled Atlanta, which finds him writing, producing and starring in a comedy that revolves around two cousins attempting break through the ATL’s highly-competitive rap scene. Today we learn that the show has officially been picked up to series by FX for a 10-episode pilot season, but perhaps the most interesting note on the show is that visionary director and longtime Bino collaborator Hiro Murai has been tapped to take the reigns as director of the series. Those that have seen twisted and immutably beautiful visuals that Bino and Murai have put together, know just how potent their creative kinship is and just how glorious a thing the new show could potentially be (see: “Sober,” “Telegraph Ave.” and “Sweatpants/Urn”.) As of now, the series is slated for a floating 2016 release, but we’ll certainly be keeping our eyes peeled for updates, so be sure to check in the weeks and months ahead for more news on Childish Gambino’s forthcoming series.
