Chance The Rapper’s Fans Want Him To Run For Mayor In 2019

Back on Chance The Rapper‘s 2015 song “Somewhere In Paradise,” the artist said, “They screamin’ ‘Chano for mayor,’ I’m thinkin’ maybe I should.”

Well, now some of his fans want to see him actually take on that position.

A group of fans has started a campaign called Chano4Mayor2k19, urging Chance to run for mayor of Chicago.

“Hey Chance, We think you’d be a great mayor,” the campaign website writes. “We know you don’t think of yourself as a politician, and we respect that. But this election is an opportunity for Chicago that we don’t want to miss.”

“We think if you ran, you would win. And if you won, you would do a good ass job,” the website adds. “You’re already making change in our city: your work supplying coats for people experiencing homelessness; your long-running Open Mike for high school students; and your million dollar donation to CPS all demonstrate a commitment to empowering Chicago’s marginalized populations. You’d send a message that Chicago is ready for a new generation of leadership.”

The campaign is requesting that Chance run in February 2019.

“We want a mayor who will fight for public education. We want a mayor who will reinvest in black and brown communities on the South and West Sides,” the website says. “We want a mayor who will address our epidemic of gun violence without the brutality of police or prisons. We want a mayor who will let the young people of Chicago lead.”

If Chance responds to the request or not is unknown but the artist is definitely using his platform to better his city. Several weeks back he donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools, and last week he hung out at Courtenay Elementary for the public school’s Career Day event.
