Remember the youngest black pilot to ever fly across the continental United States? His name is 16-year-old Isaiah Cooper, if you didn’t know. Remember his new goal of upping the ante by flying solo across the world by age 18? Well, #ICYMI, the Compton, California teenager has gotten a little help from a fellow Hub City native — rapper The Game. If Cooper can make the journey, he would be the youngest person, black or white, to ever do so. One thing that is standing in his way is money because flying across the world, apparently, ain’t cheap. Cooper has started a GoFundMe page asking for $45,000 to help make the flight a reality.
On the page Cooper writes:
“I’m a 16 year old high school student determined to break the Guinness World Record for being the youngest person to fly solo around the earth. I began attending an aviation youth program in Compton at Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum (TAM) when I was 5-years-old. But as I got older, I began hanging with the wrong crowd, doing seriously self-destructive things. Realizing that this was not how I wanted to live my life, I returned to TAM. My main goal is to become a productive young man with a future in aviation, and not a statistic. On Monday, July 18th, I became the youngest African American to pilot an airplane around the continental United States. I flew from Compton, California to Maine to Washington to Florida and back home. This epic journey gave me the experience necessary to achieve my ultimate goal to be the youngest person to fly solo around the world at age 18.”
The Game took to Instagram to bring attention to the fundraising campaign. He also donated a cool $1,000. The Game has been making the news for things not related to music as of late. He recently made headlines by marching in Los Angeles against police brutality in the wake of the police killings of 37-year-old Alton Sterling and 32-year-old Philando Castile, eventually meeting with L.A. officials to talk about the strained relationships with police and the black community. The post Game made about Cooper and his aspirations to fly the world have gotten 27,000 likes on Instagram.
If you feel so inclined you can go here to donate towards helping Cooper’s dream of flying across the world happen.
