Veteran actor Bill Nunn, known as the iconic character Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing, has died at age 62.

Lee broke the news on his Instagram page. While the cause of death has not been revealed yet, Lee said that Nunn died in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa.

"My Dear Friend, My Dear Morehouse Brother- Da Great Actor Bill Nunn As Most Of You Know Him As Radio Raheem Passed Away This Morning In His Hometown Of Pittsburgh," Lee posted. "Long Live Bill NUNN. RADIO RAHEEM Is Now RESTING IN POWER. RADIO RAHEEM WILL ALWAYS BE FIGHTING DA POWERS DAT BE. MAY GOD WATCH OVER BILL NUNN."

Radio Raheem was known for carrying his large boom box playing Public Enemy's "Fight The Power" around the neighborhood, before he was killed by a police officer in the film, prompting a riot in their Brooklyn neighborhood. The film is a benchmark in black cinema, and Radio Raheem is one of the most memorable characters.

Nunn was was a veteran actor who appeared in more than 50 films and TV shows in his career of over 25 years. He made his debut in Spike Lee's School Daze, and would continue to have memorable roles in New Jack City as the bodyguard of Wesley Snipes' character Nino Brown, with Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act, with Alicia Silverstone and Kevin Dillon in True Crime, and as Joseph "Robbie" Robertson in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
