Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory has had a few years cut from his 30-year prison sentence for his involvement in the infamous Black Mafia Family drug ring.
In a report from The Detroit News, a federal judge reduced Meech’s prison sentence by three years, with the judge starting that Meech was entitled to a reduction because of changes in sentencing guidelines since he was convicted. Now, the Black Mafia Family leader will likely be released in 2028 instead of 2031.
“He has demonstrated strong commitment to rehabilitation during his incarceration,” Brittany Barnett, Meech’s lawyer, wrote in a court filing. “Mr. Flenory, who has not been convicted of a crime of violence, does not have an assaultive or violent criminal record.”
It was previously reported that Meech was possibly going to be released early amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, although Terry Flenory, Meech’s brother, was released last year, that wasn’t the case for Meech.
“During his time in prison, Flenory continues to promote himself, and through others, his legacy as a highly successful professional drug dealer. Nothing in that promotion suggests that Flenory has changed,” United States attorney Dawn Ison said of Meech in court filing last year opposing an early release for Meech.
50 Cent, who is producing a series about the Black Mafia Family for Starz, shared news of Meech’s reduced prison sentence on Instagram.
