BET Bids Farewell To Obama Family With Special Tributes

BET Bids Farewell To Obama Family With Special Tributes

With the Obama family prepping their exit from the White House, BET is honoring them with a month long celebration dedicated to their accomplishments, resulting in a full day of programming focused on the Obamas.

That full of day of programming comes in the form of three different specials, which includes a reshowing of Love and Happiness: An Obama Celebration (the incredible party thrown by the First Family that both Questlove and Dave Chappelle attended and have spoken very highly about).

The other two will serve as premieres — Through the Fire: The Legacy of Barack Obama and BET Life of: The Obamas.

The former is a documentary that will examine President Obama's historic election as America' first African American president. The special will utilize archival footage, as well as a number of exclusive interviews with Samuel L. Jackson, Common, Van Jones, Questlove and many others, to explore the challenges and successes that were a part of Obama's eight years as president. Through the Fire will be narrated by Jesse Williams, and directed by Stanley Nelson.

The latter will highlight the notable appearances the Obamas made on BET throughout their time in the White House, which will include Michelle Obama's guest appearances on 106 & Park, Black Girls Rock and BET Honors, as well as Barack's interview with Jeff Johnson, where the two discussed significant issues in black communities across the country. The special will also highlight the celebration and anniversary of the historic Selma to Montgomery march that the First Family was a part of. Marc Lamont Hill will serve as the host for BET Life of: The Obamas.

Both Through the Fire and BET Life of: The Obamas will premiere on January 19, at 7 pm EST and 4 pm EST, respectively, while An Obama Celebration will also air that same day at 8 am EST and 11 pm EST.
