Donald Glover's 'Atlanta' Scores Big Ratings For Premiere Since 2013

So, Donald Glover'sAtlantamade its highly anticipated premiere last week on FX, and will be airing its third episode tonight. Critics have enjoyed the show so far (ourselves included) and apparently, so have people across the country.

According to a report from Shadow & Act,Atlantascored the best audience of any basic cable primetime scripted comedy in over three years in the key 18-49 demographic. This hasn't happened since 2013, with Comedy Central's series premiere ofInside Amy Schumer.

In total viewers, Atlanta was basic cable's second most watched scripted primetime comedy series premiere in the last two years, behind only Wreckedon TBSearlier this year.

Glover is probably proud of the accomplishment, and absolutely deserves it. As our own Kevin Clark wrote about the series so far:

"At the end of previewingAtlanta it is apparent that the half-hour FX program is still figuring out what it's going to be, but that is where all the fun and excitement lie. Forgoing a paint-by-the-numbers approach in favor of a looser exploration of black life in the A,Atlantais as much about class as it is about race. Grounded to showcase just what frustrated black males are working with in this country, while exploring what it is they want Atlantais not fantasy as much as it is fodder for a grander discussion. With a talented cast, an imaginative director and some critical points to make about some salient subjects Atlanta is an impressive new vibe that is worth your attention, support and Twitter fingers."

"I wanted to show white people, you don't know everything about black culture," Glover said in an interview with VultureaboutAtlanta. Obviously Glover is doing a great job of telling the story he wants to tell with this show so far.

If you haven't watched the first episode yet, you should definitely do that now.
