Amy Cooper Made a Second 911 Call Alleging Christian Cooper "Tried To Assault Her"

The second call was unveiled during a virtual court hearing on Wednesday.

Amy Cooper who made a police call in Central Park that forever changed the life of Black birdwatcher Christian Cooper reportedly made a second, unreported call that was unveiled today.

According to The New York Times, in the second call, she alleged a man “tried to assault her.” In a virtual court arraignment that took place on Wednesday, the second call was unveiled for the first time. The initial 911 call sparked outrage online since Christian Cooper recorded the entire altercation which included him asking her to leash her dog.

The two came across one another in Central Park’s Ramble area. Rules required that Amy Cooper should have had her dog leashed. In the video, she demanded he stopped filming her. She was arrested in July after the clip went viral. Cooper’s virtual arraignment for one count of falsely reporting an incident in the third degree could lead to a year of jail time.

Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, Assistant District Attorney reportedly said the following during Cooper’s arraignment:

“The defendant twice reported that an African American man was putting her in danger, first by stating that he was threatening her and her dog, then in a second call indicating that he tried to assault her in the Ramble area of the park.”

Additionally, during the arraignment, Illuzzi-Orbon said that in May, Cooper had used the police in a manner which was “both racially offensive and designed to intimidate.” She also stated her actions were “something that can’t be ignored.”

Illuzzi-Orbon said over the next few weeks along with Cooper and her defense attorney, Robert Barnes she’ll be exploring a program that will have her take responsibility for her actions in court. She also shared details on Cooper attending a program to educate her on how harmful her actions were.

The case has been adjourned until November 17.
