Amoeba Music's Hollywood Location Has Been Sold, Will Inevitably Become A Skyscraper

The end is nigh for Los Angeles' beloved Amoeba MusicAccording to a report by LAist, the beloved purveyor of vinyl, CDs, DVDs, tapes and various oddities sold its 6400 Sunset Boulevard location back in October of 2015 to the real estate group GPI Companies for $34 million. Though nothing has been filed with the city just yet, mock-ups by a local architectural firm (Shimahara) revealed ambitions of building a gaudy skyscraper right between LA's CNN and ArcLight buildings, otherwise known as the entirety of the very block that currently plays home to the institution in question.

Amoeba has insisted that they're not going anywhere anytime soon, but we'll see just how long they can fend off their buyers. In other Amoeba news, the independent music chain's Berkley flagship recently revealed it was on the short list of prospective sites for a new medical marijuana dispensary, which would operate right out of the current location. So maybe the answer here is somehow weed? Maybe not, but we wouldn't rule it out. Keep yours eyes on us for updates and make sure to get over there while you still can.
