The ex-cop was convicted last month of murder and sentenced to 10 years behind bars for fatally shooting Botham Jean.

Amber Guyger's lawyers plan to appeal the murder conviction and 10-year sentence she received in regards to her fatally shooting Botham Jean.

In a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the notice to appeal was filed October 16 by Michael Mowla, one of Guyger's attorneys. The Star-Telegram reports that a notice is the first step for the defense to pursue an appeal, but the notice does not specify the grounds for an appeal.

A Dallas jury had sentenced Guyger to 10 years in prison for the shooting death of Botham Jean on October 1. Guyger fatally shot Jean in his own apartment after mistaking it for hers. She initially told authorities that she mistook his apartment for hers and thought he was a burglar. She also accused Jean of not listening to her “verbal commands” before fatally shooting him.

In related news, Joshua Brown, a key witness in the trial against Guyger, was shot and killed in Dallas two weeks ago. Brown was gunned down in front of the Atera apartments in Dallas, just five miles from where he, Jean and Guyger lived when the initial murder took place. Brown was pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after being discovered laying in the parking lot of his apartment complex with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
