As Trump’s promises for his “great America” continue to come to fruition (or not, even scarier) artists are stepping up to ensure that the causes directly in the president-elect’s crosshairs remain in-tact and fully-funded. Cue: The Beastie Boys‘ Ad-Rock has designed a sleek new sneaker with LA-based vegan footwear company, Keep. The net profit from the collaboration will be donated entirely to Planned Parenthood, an organization that stands to lose more than most in a Trump world. Ad-Rock explained:
“I support a woman’s right to choose and feel that women should not be punished for making decisions about their own lives and bodies. If you have similar beliefs, you might wanna grab a pair.”
The sneakers — a black mid-top fully weatherized and bearing the hip-hop pioneer’s last name in hot pink across both heels — are slated to go on sale in February of 2017. Pre-orders, however, are officially underway via Keep’s site. Earlier this month, Trump supporters vandalized Downtown Brooklyn’s Adam Yauch Park with swastikas and pro-Trump sentiments (basically the same thing,) to which Ad-Rock responded with a passionate plea for sanity and tolerance the following weekend. Here’s hoping even more artists find ways to fight for (and fund) the organizations that empower marginalized voices and protect civil rights the world over.
