A rule of thumb: no matter what never compare Donald Trump to Martin Luther King Jr.

Such a statement would seem like common knowledge but political strategist Jeffrey Lord did exactly that during a recent CNN segment.

The former Ronald Reagan administration official was speaking with CNN political commentator and fellow panelist Symone Sanders about Trump's recent threat to stop insurance payments for Obamacare when Lord made the statement.

"President Trump is the Martin Luther King of healthcare," Lord said. "When I was a kid, President Kennedy did not want to introduce the Civil Rights bill because he said it wasn't popular, he didn't have the votes for it, etc. Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm's way to put the pressure on."

Throughout this entire moment, Sanders attempted to interject and finally did so, saying to Lord: "You do understand that Dr. King was marching for Civil Rights because people that looked like me were being beaten. Dogs were being sicked on them. Basic human rights were being withheld from these people merely because of the color of their skin. So let's not equate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — a humanitarian, a Nobel Peace Prize winner — to the vagina-grabbing President Donald Trump."

Black women CNN political commentators have had to endure ignorant statements made by other panelists throughout Trump's presidency.

Angela Ryerecently called out Conservative talk radio host and former Rep. Joe Walsh when he said former president Barack Obama was held to a lower standard during his two terms because he is black.

"I am not interested in trying to convince and change the mind of a bigot, someone who will openly troll me and say things that are offensive that he knows are not true," Rye told CNN host Brooke Baldwin. "I'm not interested in having a dialogue with someone like Joe, who has demonstrated a propensity towards bigotry, and he did that on Twitter yesterday, in 140 characters or less."
