17 Sundance Films We Want To See in 2017
The winds of change are blowing, damn near a tornado, in our direction. President Barack Obama is leaving office, most of old Hollywood has passed away and even Anita Baker is considering hanging it all up. Where can we go to veg out and just close our brains to the madness of the Human Cheeto Uprising that’s gonna happen tomorrow (Jan. 20)…?
A: The 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
As hundreds and thousands of cinephiles make their way to Park City, Utah to check out new projects, films with Oscar buzz and meet with budding filmmakers + actors — the 33rd edition of the Sundance Film Festival, which starts today (Jan. 19), promises to be an exemplary look into new worlds, fresh ideas and introspective documentaries. Aside from the A-listers who will be in attendance, we are excited to make note of the rising talents that will become household names before the year is over.
Names such as Lakeith Stanfield, Jason Mitchell, Sasheer Zamata and Devin Blackmon are on the come up and in one way or another you will be getting familiar with them. Let’s all thank Robert Redford for creating this annual event that allows us to break these stars, their newfound careers and introduce fantastic docs, stories and filmmakers to the rest of the world. There are already quite a few “buzz worthy” titles that people have been talking about since last year. Without any further ado, here are 17 of the most hyped, certified dope, must-see movies that are playing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Don’t say that we didn’t warn you!
