The teen allegedly staged the kidnapping "to get away from her strict mom."

Karol Sanchez, a 16-year-old girl who was kidnapped Monday reportedly staged the entire thing, according to CBS2

The New York Daily News reports that Sanchez orchestrated the kidnapping “to get away from her strict mom.” She confessed after being reunited with her family earlier Tuesday. The kidnappers are reportedly friends of hers.

A surveillance video from Monday evening at about 11:30 p.m. includes Sanchez and several men snatching her off of the street as she walked with her mother in the Bronx. The 10-second clip also features a beige sedan that pulled up just moments before, Sanchez was stuffed into the vehicle while her mother was shoved to the ground. It happened in the Melrose section of the Bronx near 775 Eagle Avenue.

A police source told the publication that when they realized the kidnapping had become a topic of today’s news, they panicked. “Once they realized what they did, with the amber alert on their phones, it was like, ‘Oh, s--t, we got a problem.’” An Amber Alert was prompted earlier today by the NYPD in addition to the printing of posters featuring Sanchez's face alongside a description.

Sanchez turned up on Eagle Ave. near 156th St. at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday nearby where the incident took place.  Police learned that the mother of the teen wanted to move the family back to Honduras and that Karol didn’t want to return there, according to sources.

CBS2 reports that the NYPD wants to speak with each person involved before moving forward with any charges. Sanchez and her family had been visiting relatives, they currently live in Dutchess County.
