12 Year-Old Kanye West Pays Tribute To MLK In Throwback Vid

Kim Kardashian hit Twitter late yesterday to share footage of a young Kanye West reciting a poem about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The VHS clip features a then 12 year-old West reciting an original poem in celebration of the civil rights leader. His confident stage presence and emphatic statements offer glimpses of the man now known to the world as a super-producer and brash MC. Though the clip surfaced a little late, his words are a proper reflection on the life and legacy of the civil rights leader following this week's observance of MLK Day:

"A man who fought for freedom/A man who fought for equality/Those who were against him/Were too blind to see/What this man was fighting for/So Blacks, Hispanics, Jews and Asians could put their foot in the door/Yes, we know that this man is great/That’s why today we celebrate/Everyone lifts their voice and sing/For a man who wanted freedom to ring/Martin Luther King is who I’m speaking of/A man whose name means love."
