Fresh from decimating the NBA All-Star stage, the legendary Illadelph crew announces the line-up for their 10th annual Roots Picnic at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. Heading the eclectic bill will be Kimbra, Solange, 21 Savage, Lil’ Wayne and a joint headline set featuring The Roots and Pharrell Williams.

“Ten years ago, this [Roots Picnic] started [off] as a concept, an idea, a conversation between me, Tarik (Black Thought), Ahmir (Questlove) and Rich (Nichols),” says Shawn Gee, The Roots’ longtime manager and partner in Maverick Management. “It is amazing that it has grown into such a valued piece of the cultural landscape of our hometown of Philadelphia.”

Throughout its history, Roots Picnic has been a barometer event where you found out who was up next, while enjoying the acts who were hot at that very moment. Continuing to embolden that tradition, Roots Picnic expanded to New York City last year, and aims to become a brand and force that touches the ears of audiophiles from sea to shining sea. “Philly will always be the home, the birthplace of the Roots Picnic,” Shawn Gee continued to say in a press release. “We are super excited to bring a packed lineup to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and as always there will be plenty of surprises and special guests.”

Ah, yes, the full lineup. With the “Hardest Working Band in Music,” touring, performing nightly on The Tonight Show and putting on one of the premiere events during festival season — Roots Picnic annually includes some of the game’s biggest and hottest names. While Pharrell, Lil’ Wayne + Solange are nothing to sneeze at, Roots Picnic will also feature artists such as Thundercat, Pete Rock, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Noname, Khalid, Gilles Peterson, DJ Spinna, Tunji Ige and plenty more.

Tickets are on sale now at RootsPicnic.com. With Pharrell’s In Search Of… anniversary this year, you’ll want to get them tickets now before it is too late.
