XXX, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, had agreed to a one-album deal with Empire Distribution for a value of $10 million according to the New York Times. Empire is the same company that released XXX’s debut album 17 (his second album, ?, was released through Universal Music Group’s distribution unit, Caroline).
The Times also spoke with Empire founder Ghazi Shami, who revealed that XXX had finished “a significant amount of material” for the new record. However, it’s unknown when it will be released. As the Times also notes, because XXX’s last album was released through Caroline, the new album may not be released until at least October.
The report also mentions how XXX’s estate may license an archive of unreleased material the rapper has for years to come.
XXX was killed a few weeks ago in Florida while shopping for motorcycles. While leaving the dealership a gunman reportedly approached his vehicle, shot him, and stole a Louis Vuitton bag in the car.
A suspect was arrested in XXX’s murder. Dedrick D. Williams, 22, was taken into custody in Deerfield Beach, Florida, Wednesday evening. The Broward County website states that Williams was arrested for first-degree murder, described as “murder dangerous depraved w/o premeditation.” The charges he faces include first-degree murder, a probation violation for theft of a car motor vehicle and driving without a valid license.
