For the 12th pick, fans voted in Los Angeles rapper Blueface.

XXL has released its annual freshman cover list. Last year, the publication was criticized for only having one woman on the cover (Stefflon Don).

For 2019's cover, XXL tried to remedy this: they have Megan Thee Stallion, Rico Nasty, and Tierra Whack on the list. Also featured on the list is Blueface, DaBaby, Roddy Rich, YBN Cordae, Gunna, YK Osiris, Lil Mosey, and Cometrazine.

Eleven of the rappers were chosen by the staff. There was one user pick: the voters picked Blueface, who's had one of the biggest songs of 2019, "Thotiana."
