JAY-Z is Officially the Most Grammy-Nominated Artist Ever, Passing Quincy Jones

JAY-Z now has 83 Grammy nominations, surpassing Quincy Jones. The rapper has taken home statues 20 times.

On Tuesday, November 23, the the Recording Academy announced the 2022 Grammy nominations. Despite the fact that he didn't put an album out this year, JAY-Z was the big winner. The legendary rapper picked up three nominations: two for his appearance on Kanye West's "Jail" off of Donda (Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album) and his appearance on DMX's posse cut "Bath Salts" (Best Rap Song).

With those three nominations, JAY-Z has officially become the most nominated Grammy-nominated artist in history. JAY-Z now has 83 Grammy nominations, surpassing Quincy Jones who has 80. Jones is now holding down the no. 3 spot because Paul McCartney picked up two nominations, upping his nomination total to 81. (Before today, McCartney was tied with Beyoncé with 79 nominations; this is the first time since 2015 Bey didn't receive a Grammy nomination.)

Here is the current list of the most grammy nominated artists of all time:

  1. JAY-Z — 83
  2. Paul MCcARTNEY — 81
  3. Beyonce — 79
  4. Georg Solti -—74 (tied)
  5. Stevie Wonder — 74 (tied)

JAY-Z has basically been a Grammy mainstay since 1998, when he was nominated for three nominations for Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life album. From 2000 to 2014, JAY-Z picked up at least one Grammy nomination every year. In 2017, JAY-Z famously went 0-8 with Grammys for his classic 4:44 album. The moment clearly stung, so much so that JAY-Z would reference the snub in his 2018 duet with Beyonce "Ape Shit:"

"Tell the Grammy’s fuck that 0 for 8 shit

Have you ever seen the crowd goin' apeshit?"

While Jay has a bunch of grammy nominations the rapper has only taken home statues 20 times. In 2009, 2010, and 2012 the rapper took home three grammy nominations each year. Hov's last Grammy win came last year for his work on Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage."

We're sure we will hear a bar about all of this soon.
