Tyler, The Creator Pinpoints The Deciding Factor in The LOX’s Dominant Verzuz Victory

According to Tyler, The Creator, Dipset suffered from a fatal flaw during their Verzuz matchup with The LOX.

In the days following The LOX’s lopsided Verzuz victory, rap pundits have thrown around a lot of theories as to why the matchup went so south so quickly for Dipset.

Many chalked it up to the candidly cold performance of unanimous Verzuz MVP, Jadakiss. Others posited The LOX’s insisting on performing without a vocal track as the key to their dominance in a live setting. But Tyler, The Creator has his own take on the deciding factor in the wildly entertaining showdown between legendary NYC crews.

According to a new interview with Tyler (who is categorically back to rapping on his latest album, Call Me If You Get Lost,) the key to LOX’s win was fairly simple. “Jadakiss, bro. That man cares. He gives a fuck,” Tyler declared in a sitdown with Hot97’s morning crew. “Everytime he would perform, him and Styles P, It wouldn’t be 80 n****s on stage. I just noticed it’d be like space. He kept making a point to say ‘Hey, we are home. ‘We are in New York.’ Where, like, rap started. ‘We are at Madison Square Garden. We are known, we feed our family because we use our voice over instrumentals. We are on stage right now with a microphone specifically to do that. Why the fuck are y’all n****s rapping over the songs?” Tyler added, before also noting the difference in the dispositions of the contending groups. “He wasn’t too cool, ‘cause if you too cool you’re gonna freeze to death,” the rapper quipped. “N****s trying to be too cool and not too silly and always try to be hard. And it’s like bro, you look dumb. When Jadakiss said that shit, I was like ‘Oh, I think I’m in love with this n***a’.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Tyler chronicles his come-up from Odd Future figurehead to breakout solo star, discusses what he’s gleaned from rubbing shoulders with idols like JAY-Z and Pharrell, and, of course, plugs his upcoming tour in support of the new album, Call Me If You Get Lost, (the tickets for which go on sale today.)
