Last week, legendary singer Raphael Saadiq released  Jimmy Lee, the singer’s first new album since 2011’s Stone Rollin.’ The 13-track album is deeply personal for Saadiq: Jimmy Lee is inspired, in part, by his older brother’s heroin addiction. Following the release of Jimmy Lee, Saadiq has dropped a mini-documentary centered around the making of the album, his most personal yet.

We are proud to premiere the documentary which features some killer behind the scenes studio footage as well as shots of Saadiq in New Orleans.

Speaking about why he made the Jimmy Lee album and some of the artistic decision he made, Saadiq, via email, told us:

I needed it for myself and I felt the world could use it also...I still wanted to make a great record, so I didn’t want to bring people down while trying to lift them up at the same time...I hope that people will find a piece of them inside the stories.
