Watch Questlove’s Touching Four-Hour Bill Withers Tribute DJ Set

The Roots drummer salutes soul music’s iconic everyman.

Questlove‘s daily dispatch returned last night with a touching tribute to the late Bill Withers.

INTERVIEW: Bill Withers on Songwriting, Sampling & Legendary Concerts From Zaire to Carnegie Hall

Visibly shaken from the news, Questo pulled it together for a choice four-hour DJ set, spinning rare and celebrated live takes, covers, and hip-hop classics that repurposed Withers’ timeless songwriting standards. Throughout the set, The Roots drummer chimes in with personal accounts of studying Withers’s songbook and live performances, noting how before he ever memorized a song, he’d learned Withers’ “Grandma’s Hands” monologue from the legendary Live at Carnegie Hall performance.
