Last week, Phife Dawg‘s estate shared the video for a remix of his posthumous single, “Nutshell.”
Dubbed “Nutshell Pt. 2,” the remix featured contributions from honorary Native Tongues members, Busta Rhymes and Redman, both of which appeared in the video (released on the five-year-anniversary of Phife’s death,) alongside the late A Tribe Called Quest rapper. But now an extended version of the visual has been released, riffing on Tribe’s infamous “Industry Rule #4,080.” Staging a sit-down with a fictional label’s HR rep, the “director’s cut” of the video adds a cameo from Hot 97’s Pete Rosenberg, who briefly (and jokingly,) portrays Busta during a downsizing meeting.
The J Dilla-produced single is the first to surface from Phife’s upcoming posthumous album, Forever, which was announced in the months following the rapper’s death, but recently gained renewed momentum when A Tribe Called Quest revealed that the album was slated to arrive at some point this year. A second posthumous single, “Wanna Dance,” was released in 2017, but it remains unclear whether the Dwele-assisted song will be featured on the album, which has yet to receive a precise release date from Tribe or the rapper’s estate.
For now, you can watch the director’s cut of Phife Dawg’s “Nutshell Pt. 2” video below. Hold tight for updates on Phife’s posthumous album, Forever, in the weeks and months ahead.
