The welcoming committee for JAY-Z at this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony was nothing short of elite.
As you may have seen a few weeks back, the rapper-turned-mogul was formally inducted by Dave Chappelle, Barack Obama, and Beyoncé, who delivered impassioned speeches during the recording of the event in Cleveland. But the tributes didn’t end there. In fact, they continued in a Questlove-directed commemoration, which aired along with the full induction ceremony on HBO over the weekend.
Shared in full via Instagram by the Roots drummer and producer (see below,) the commemorative clip, titled The Times and Life of Shawn Carter, featured the broadest possible range of A-list entertainers reciting classic JAY-Z lines from “Hard Knock Life,” “Show Me What You Got,” and more, including Rihanna, SZA, H.E.R., Chris Rock, Pharrell, Usher, Naomi Campbell, Idris Elba, Aziz Ansari, Lena Waithe, Jamie Foxx, Rick Ross, Common, David Letterman, John Legend, Kevin Hart, RZA, Lebron James, and of course, the remaining Carter family.
JAY-Z was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in a class brimming with pioneers. He was joined by Tina Turner, LL Cool J, Todd Rundgren, Carole King, The Go-Go’s, and The Foo Fighters.
Watch a Questlove-directed salute to JAY-Z below and head over to HBO to see the full Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
