Chris Dave and The Drumhedz made their Tiny Desk debut this week.

Quick on the heels of Snoh Aalegra's performance, the swing sensei (who's backed D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, and damn near any current or residual Soulquarian outfit under the sun) wrangled a top-shelf ensemble for their outing.

Leading a crew consisting of Frank Moka (of Badu's supporting staff,) Isaiah Sharky (of The Vanguard,) and Thaddaeus Tribbett (brother to modern gospel hero, Tye,) the set commences with "Black Hole" and "Whatever," a pair of selections from the band's self-titled 2018 album. Once Elzhi and Aaron Camper settle in, the band detours to a pair of distinctly Detroit daggers, including a live take of Slum Village's post-Dilla triumph, "Tainted," and the early Black Milk stunner, "Sounds of The City." The group closes with a reprisal of Dave's original compositions, capping the set with "Clear View" and "Job Well Done."
