Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, took the Verzuz stage last night in the IG flagship’s first soundclash installment.
An enthralling (and glitch-free) showing from the dancehall rivals, the latest live-streamed bout garnered nearly half a million viewers, including drop-ins from Rihanna, Diddy, and Verzuz co-organizer, Swizz Beatz. It even featured a play-by-play from Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, on Twitter. Last night’s showdown followed a match between Ludacris and Nelly, whose “battle” was riddled with technical difficulties for the first half-hour before a clear signal finally came through and carried the early aughts rap stars across the finish line.
In the hours following that performance, Swizz was already locking in prospective participants, hopping on calls with Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes to secure their “paperwork” for an upcoming head-to-head. No word on when, or even if, we’ll get that collision of catalogs.
Until then, you can watch Beenie Man and Bounty Killer square up in last night’s Verzuz battle below. Hold tight for the announcement of next week’s contenders.
